Analysis of music video.

Analysis of music videos.

Wiz Khalifa- see you again
This song is in the film and is also a tribute for paul walker who was the star of fast and furious who sadly passed away. The music video start off with somebody walking and another playing the piano, the shots are rather slow as the mood of the song will be rather down because it is about somebody passing away, The camera angles and shots at the start of the video are focusing on emotion and trying to make the viewers feel emotion, they do this by using close up's and focusing on one persons face rather than videoing a lot of different shots. When the song starts to kick in the video starts to show clips of the film fast and furious which paul waker was the star of. The video is wanting to show some of the best shots which paul walker played in the film fast and furious so people can remember him as an extermely happy person.
This video links into the song lyrics 'its been a long day, without you my friend', as paul walker passed away they are trying to base the song lyrics around that to attract everyones attention and to gain sympathy and to bring out the emotion in people.
The music video is trying to show the bond paul had with different people, and to show how strong it was, this is a good tecnique in order to gain respect and emotion from the viewers. At the end of the video the two cars both part ways and drive off, this is included in the video to show that there will not be another, the camera then looks over the sunset into the sky which gives connotations of paul walker being up there and the last lyric of the song says ;see you again' this then gives the viewers hope that he will be peacefull.

James Bay - Hold back the river
This music video is quite different from most as the singer is the only one in the video at the beginning, it is very dark and he is in a circular room on his own all black apart from one light in the middle which he stands in showing himself standing alone with a guitar. The style of this video is performative as the video is just focusing on him and his band playing and singing, tho allows for the emotion for the song to come through with how he is and how he perfumes when singing along side the band.
In the video he is miming, they do this to allow the better recorded studio version of the song to be put over the top of the filmed video, also it is not filmed as a live performance which means that the song is able to be put over the top of the filming.
The techniques used in this video are that the camera uses various different shots and scenes to bring across the singer, they generally stay in the same place but for a large majority of the song the camera rotates around James Bay with close ups, mid shots and wide shots with the camera still moving in a circular motion around James. This particularly happens throughout the middle of the song as the beginning starts very dark and gloomy focusing on James' face and emotion, with some of the lyrics that he sings the camera especially does close ups onto his face but is dark and shadowed, this could be because he is singing about being lonely and this shot is showing how he is lonely with the shot being dark and lonely.
As the beat picks up within the song the video becomes more bright and happy looking the camera also moves a lot faster. Another thing that happens when the beat picks up just over half way through the video, other members of the band also start appearing in the room with James, the camera then focuses on them playing their instruments as well.

The close ups that the camera makes shows the emotion on his face by doing this it relates to the song on how how what he is singing effects him as the video is only focusing on him and the band. As the song starts to end it slows and starts to get dark again like the beginning, the band leaves which means that he is on his own again and the camera takes a close up of his face to emphasise the emotion he feels towards the end of the song.
Even though the music beat can got quite fast throughout the video the shots did not always change to the beat, this is down as it is a slow song and with the slower changing shots compared to the speed of the beat highlights how the emotion is being brought through.

David Guetta - What i did for love:
This music video is animated as it is a cartoon of a women and a gorilla, the music video is also a narrative as it is showing how the gorilla loves the girl and would do anything for her, the video portrays a romantic side as the gorilla represents a boy/man that is a gorilla on the inside. By representing this through the outside it is showing how hard it is for women to love a boy/man like this but by the end of the music video the girl falls for him and loves him; the shots and scenes of the music video change throughout the video to match the beat of the music to keep the video up beat. By doing this it keeps the beat of the music video in time with each other so that they link and don't look out of place. In the video the gorilla saves the girl from danger numerous times this representing what he would go through for her, this then shows links into the song as the song is about what he did for love. The lyric interpretations relates to the video as the lyrics that are being sang relate to what is happening in the song, also in the song there is no one actually singing because it is animated the song is not brought across by an actual singer this is
why the song is put over the top of the music video and instead of someone lip singing it in a video they made the video relating to what is happening in the song.

purpose of music videos

Extension of income;
Extension of income within the music industry is making money from their music videos. Celebrity’s music videos are published on big websites, such as YouTube; by publishing their music videos on YouTube it allows the video to get many views. For example each 1000 view’s generates £2. Normally the more views a music video gets on YouTube indicates the amount of money the artist will make for the video, also on YouTube popular music videos normally have an advert before they play the video, this is usually another music video of the same genre, this then allows other music videos to become popular and well known because of the advert is before the music video they are wanting to watch. Promoting products in their music videos, such as cars, make-up, and various other products, also makes money. For example in the new song ’see you again-wiz khalifa’ it is promoting many different sports cars, this can then also allow the companies of the products to make more money, because they are located in popular music videos.Therefore more or less every single music video makes money and many benefits from somewhere, weather it is from a website publishing the video, the products in the video or the advert played before the music video.

Extension of Outlets;

There are many different ways you can interpret music videos and many different places they are shown. One place you can interpret a music video is on the TV there are many different music channels broadcasting different music videos on the television, by these music videos being published on the television it allows more people to see the video therefore it will generate more publicity, and by generating more publicity that means it will make more money for the producer, The audience who usually watch the music videos on the TV are the younger generation, there are many reasons for this, one being they dont drive, and many people who drive just listen to the radio and dont bother about the videos, and another reason is because they would probably have it on at home whilst being with their friends. Another way music videos are interpreted is by the internet and certain websites such as YouTube, people could see this as being an easier way of interpreting music rather than by the television because YouTube can be watched on more or less every portable device made, so you can access it on the go, whereas the television is in one place therefore you cant transport it anywhere and you need to be there in one place to watch the music videos. You can also interpret Music video's on disk's such as direct DVD and CD's, these are normally sold in shops also along with live music concerts, people may buy these, and prefer to watch these because they have always got them, for example you never know if the internet or TV could cut off, so you are always guaranteed to watch these videos, because you have bought them and they can be shown anywhere.
synergy;
A synergy is where two products or companies combine with each other to make a video. For example there are many ways in which synergy is used when linking a music video with a film or television show. Some music is made purposely for just a film or TV show. Music is normally introduced into films to create a sense of emotion for the audience/viewers to experience. For example the song 'Ellie goulding-Love me like you do' is in the film 50 shades of grey, because that film then became popular the viewers allowed that song to go into the top 40, and helped increase sales of the song. The music video from that song was the same as the film, therefore there was an interlink between the film and the music video.
Synergy can also be interpreted by advertising, If an advert is shown before a song on Youtube, this would give them synergy through the video they would be associated with and hopefully increase and improve publicity.
Synergy could also occur when a film is brought out, for example high school musical, when bringing this film out there was also many toys brought out after the release of it. This can then improve publicity for the film, as these toys are on display in shops.
